What To Do in La Manche, Normandy

This is a holiday owners dream – a fantastic review full of ideas of what to do in La Manche region of Normandy.

Normandy guest review

This family spent two weeks exploring the area every day both nearby and further afield. Visits to Cité de la Mer in Cherbourg, Bayeux, Omaha Beach and Mont Saint Michel were some of their longer days out. They’re all around an hour to an hour and a half away so very do-able.

Closer to home they enjoyed the local boulangeries (Gavray has three) as well as Hambye Abbey.  The towns of Granville and Coutances also made it onto their recommendation list.

I guess that all guests have their favourite Normandy memories of their time here. There’s such a variety of things to do so everyone can choose an activity that appeals to them. I usually meet my guests when they arrive and ask them if there’s anything they’re particularly interested in doing or seeing while they’re here. The review writer’s eyes lit up when I told him that there was a nearby bell foundry at Villedieu-les-Poêles.

Let me explain. He’s a keen bell-ringer and is also passionate about the Tour de France. His visit to the foundry ticked one of those boxes although opposite there is a painted shop window promoting the Tour de France 2016. This was when Normandy hosted Le Grand Départ. Rod has very kindly left a copy of his book in the gite and also given me a copy. What a lovely present to receive. Bells and Bikes is the story of the bell ringing events Rod organised for Le Grand Départ 2014. This stage of the Tour de France started in Leeds in Yorkshire. Its success led to the Tour de Yorkshire taking place in 2015 and in subsequent years.

As an avid Tour de France admirer and someone who is from Yorkshire, I’m certainly look forward to reading his book. It does indeed have pride of place on the bookshelf.
