Coutances Maze – It’s Amazing!
If you’re looking for some family fun, then the Coutances maze is open every day during the summer holidays. You can find it between Coutances and Gratot on the D57 and it is well signposted as ’Labyrinthe de Coutances’. It is close to the déchetterie (recycling centre) for Gratot which is also signposted.
The maze is made of maize and sits on a 10 acre site. In 2018 there was a space theme which involves discovering 3 different planets. There were 2 courses; the green, white and yellow planets were for those between 4 -8 years of age. For those over 8, the yellow, red and black planets had riddles to solve, questions to answer and games to play along the way. It’s free for children under 4 and 6 euros for those 4 and over although there’s no credit card facility. It’s open from 1.30pm to 7pm every day with the last ticket available at 5pm to allow enough time to do the course. It should take under 2 hours to do the course.
There’s plenty of parking. At reception you are given a space diary which is available in either French or English. You’ll also receive an explanation in either French or English of what to do from the helpful reception staff. All the puzzles are also in French and English. There is sometimes a special night time maze. Everyone brings a torch and has fun discovering the planets. It’s a great way to get some physical exercise and exercise your brain at the same time.
More information and pictures are on the Coutances maze website page and there’s also a video on their facebook page.
