Christmas has already arrived in Coutances with the launch at the beginning of December of a festive programme of events.

Christmas Comes to Coutances

There’s already been a lantern parade and activities for children. This weekend sees the cathedral lit up for a son et lumière show. The show will run from 9th – 24th December from 6pm – 7.30pm and each show lasts for half an hour. This is the first time this event has been held so it’s eagerly anticipated.

The Christmas market (marché noel) will be held from 15th – 24th December from 11am – 7.30pm. The majority of shops aren’t open on Sundays but on the 9th, 16th and 23rd shops in the centre of town will be open. On the 16th, it’s time for Father Christmas to make an appearance. Père Noel will arrive in town from 4pm along with a big parade to entertain families. You’ll also be able to buy roasted chestnuts and taste oysters. There’s a competition for children involving the shop windows that are decorated with festive scenes.
